Netflix: I'm Still Here
On a rainy winter night, how can you say No to a fake documentary about Joaquin Phoenix quitting the acting biz and becoming a rapper?
Seriously.
Not the best film, but a great piece of profanity and drugs!
Here’s the blurb on Netflix:
In 2008, Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix walked away from acting to pursue a rap career, an inexplicably bizarre detour captured in stunning detail in this documentary directed by Phoenix’s brother-in-law, Casey Affleck. Some speculated Phoenix’s behavior was part of a well-orchestrated hoax — or, even worse, a mental breakdown. But some of the film’s graphic footage suggests it could have been a little of both.
Sterner Says:
Stefan and I tried to watch this on Thursday night. We got 7 minutes in and had to shut it off. I know it’s satire…I know all movies and docu’s have a “set-up”, but listening to J. Phoenix yap about, well, nothing isn’t entertaining. Although his point about actors being literal puppets and how he doesn’t see any “artistic fulfillment” in being a puppet was pretty goddamn fantastic. I might have to give it another go, like when I’m steam cleaning the floors or some shit.
